Brendan Loughnane Comes Out On Top In a Hard Fought Battle at PFL 4

PFL 4 2021 will go down tonight, June 10 from the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The preliminary card will begin at 7:00pm ET (4:00pm PT) live for subscribers on ESPN+ with the main card kicking off at 10:00pm ET (7:00pm PT) live on ESPN 2.

In the main event, two-time Olympic gold medalist and a multi-time, multi-division world champion Claressa Shields will make her MMA debut against Brittney Elkin in a lightweight contest.

In this highlighted recap will see, Brendan Loughnane (20-3) take on Tyler Diamond (12-1) in the second round of the regular season.

Loughnane, was the stand out performer for PFL in round one, earning a first round KO against former UFC fighter Sheymon Moraes. The Brit scored six points for the finish, inserting his claim at the top of the featherweight standings. When the 2019 season was cancelled, Loughnane made the most of things, training for six months in Thailand and six months in Dubai before eventually returning to San Diego.

Diamond, also performed at PFL 1 earning a unanimous decision victory over Sung Bin Jo. The pair went to war and put it all on the line, with the American getting the nod. Having sat out for 18 months, featherweight Tyler Diamond was just happy to be able to return to action in his fight versus Sung Bin Jo at PFL 2021 #1 in April.

Here’s how the fight played out round by round:

ROUND 1:

Keith Peterson is the referee for the bout. Ninety seconds in, they’ve settled into orthodox stance. Loughnane catches Diamond with a punch combination and Diamond appears to consider a takedown, but stands back up. Halfway through the round and Loughnane lands a glancing left high kick, followed by a hard right calf kick. Diamond shoots for his first earnest takedown, running Loughnane to the fence. The round comes to a end.

ROUND 2:

Loughnane starts the round being the aggressor, throwing kicks with both legs and snapping his jab in Diamond’s face. Loughnane catches Diamond coming in with a right uppercut that stuns him. He staggers backward as Loughnane gives chase, looking for the finish. Diamond is hurt badly. They are up against the cage, and Loughnane ends up on top in Diamond’s full guard, under a minute left. Diamond looks mostly recovered.

ROUND 3:

Final round is underway, Loughnane looks for a takedown of his own but if doesn’t materialise. Loughnane lands a picture perfect punch that drops Diamond. Loughnane follows his man to the canvas, but Diamond grabs one of Loughnane’s ankles.The pair are back to the feet. Loughnane rocks Diamond AGAIN with a pair of punches. Diamond wobbles, but manages once again to survive with a desperation takedown. Loughnane cracks him with a knee to the face. Diamond is unbalanced on his feet as the fight comes to a conclusion.
