Brian Ortega says Max Holloway fight not confirmed but expected for December
UFC featherweight contender Brian Ortega is hopeful that he will get his crack at champion Max Holloway in December at UFC 231 in Toronto. While Ortega says that he has not yet signed a contract and knows things can change, he has said that the UFC has expressed that this is the fight they want to make.
“Nothing is official. Trust me, I’m always the kind of guy, until I sign the contract I’m the first one to post it out there.
“But there’s ears in the game who hear things and yeah, it’s true. We got the call and they offered us to fight in December. I said yes. I think they’re pushing for Toronto, so December is up in the air and I’m sure Max received the same call. I haven’t heard anything from his side yet, but it looks like it’s going to happen.”
The two top 145-pounders were scheduled to fight at UFC 226 however Holloway was pulled from the card just days before the contest due to health concerns. Holloway showed concussion like symptoms while weight cutting and was subsequently deemed unfit to compete.
Once the fight is made official, betting lines are soon to follow. You can place a bet on that fight once available but who the odds will favor are anyone’s guess. Holloway (19-3) has not lost a fight since his bout with Conor McGregor more than five years ago in 2013. He has won 12 straight since including two victories over and a title capture from former longtime champion Jose Aldo. ‘T-City’ Ortega is a perfect 14-0 to include a devastating knockout win over former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar earlier this year.
