Canelo Alvarez to fight Avni Yildrim on Feb. 27 in Miami

Canelo Alvarez is wasting no time getting back into the ring.

After just fighting on Dec. 19, Alvarez will fight again on Feb. 27 against Avni Yildirim, who is Alvarez’s next mandatory challenger for the WBC title. The Athletic was first to report the news and it was later confirmed by ESPN.

Alvarez (54-1-2, 36 KOs) is coming off a dominant unanimous decision win over previously undefeated super middleweight champion Callum Smith. The victory crowned Alvarez as the WBA, WBC and the Ring magazine super middleweight titles.

Yildirim (12-2, 12 KOs) last fought in February 2019 where he lost a spilt technical decision to Anthony Dirrell after Direll was cut from an accidental clash of heads.

The fight will take place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The fight will be broadcasted on DAZN and other pay per view cable around the world except for Mexico.

According to the report, Alvarez is on track to book another fight in 2021 on May 8. That fight would be against WBO super middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders. That fight is not official, but it is expected to take place with IBF champion Caleb Plant as a secondary option for Alvarez.
