Cat Zingano Talks About The Future Ahead of Bellator 282

“Nothing stays any way forever in this sport.”

Cat Zingano will be facing Pam Sorenson at Bellator 282 but during fight week she had to address a lot of questions about a potential fight between her and Cris Cyborg. Zingano is currently ranked number two in the Bellator MMA rankings and of course, she wants a shot at the champ, but there are other fights in Bellator too.

Arlene Blencowe is still the number one ranked featherweight and recently lost her second shot at the title. Afterward, Blencowe re-signed with Bellator after making a proclamation that if she cannot have the belt, no one else can. If Blencowe is the gatekeeper between Zingano and Cyborg, Zingano says she doesn’t see that being the case for long.

“I understand her placement hasn’t moved,” Zingano said. “But, nothing stays any way forever in this sport. We were signed to face each other last year, but something happened to the visa for her to come to the states, something like a crazy long application process during COVID.”

Booking anything was rough during that time and Zingano’s point about nothing staying the same definitely holds true when it comes to the rankings. However, since it seems they were always close in the rankings, whatever happens after Bellator 282 that’s a fight Zingano expects at some point in the future.

She closed by saying, “I do expect we’ll fight, I guarantee we’ll fight.”

For now, she has to focus on Sorenson who is currently ranked at number six, and wants to try and put some space between Zingano, Blencowe, and Cyborg when rankings get updated after Bellator 282.

Zingano will be facing Sorenson on the prelims which will air on Bellator MMA and SHOWTIME Sports YouTube channel. Bellator 282 begins at 6 p.m. EST this Friday with the main card airing on SHOWTIME at 9 p.m. EST.
