CFFC 106 Results – Artis vs. Smith
CFFC returns to Tampa, Florida to host CFFC 106 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on Thursday night.
In the headliner, CFFC lightweight champion and hometown hero, Blake Smith (6-2), is set for his first CFFC title defense as he takes on Paris Artis (5-0). Tampa’s, Smith, has been red-hot lately scoring victories in three straight bouts, including two of the three wins by submission. He earned the title at CFFC 100 over Zulkarnaiyn Kamchybekov, who is also on the CFFC 106 card. The 31-year-old does his training at DEFWAR with the likes of UFC veteran, Aalon Cruz, and several other competitors on Thursday night’s card. Smith has quite the electric style, bringing the fight to his opponents and searching for a finish at all times. He is beyond explosive in both grappling and striking exchanges but is patient when is comes to ending his opponent’s night. Smith has been to just two decisions in his eight fights and has scored finishes in five of his six wins. Come Thursday night, the hometown hero must be on his game to takeout the undefeated Paris Artis.
Artis makes his third walk to the CFFC cage this week riding high after a, mostly, dominant start to his pro career. The North Carolina native has scored finishes in all five of his pro bouts. His dominance hasn’t came just as a pro as he earned a 7-0 record as an amateur, winning six of seven by way of finish. The 27-year-old is a member of Wildside and Team R.O.C. in Fayetteville, North Carolina and is coached by Ses Stevenson. Despite being a smaller lightweight, Artis packs power whether that be with his kicks or his punches. He mixes in his wrestling pretty well and has quite the submission game securing wins by D’arce choke and arm triangle. One aspect of his game that’s notable is his sneaky high kick. In his last bout, he faced adversity early however, he overcame it and scored a third round submission victory. With the quality talent and exceptional gas tanks of both camps, fight fans are in for a treat with this main event.
The vacant CFFC welterweight strap is on the line in the co-main event as Eric Alequin (6-0) squares off with Hugh Pulley (8-4). Sanford MMA’s, Eric Alequin, is a solid talent getting his biggest opportunity to date. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt makes his CFFC debut at CFFC 106 after a perfect start to his pro career. Alequin’s most recent martial arts appearance was back in October in which he took on notable MMA name, Jake Shields, in a grappling bout. Despite making his pro debut in 2018, he is a tenured veteran of martial arts and has trained with some of the worlds best over the years. The 31-year-old is a jack of all trades, but look for him to get to his patented grappling on fight night. Alequin looks to bring his first pro MMA belt home with a victory at CFFC 106.
MMA veteran, Hugh Pulley, stands in Alequin’s way come Thursday night. The 33-year-old makes his second walk to the CFFC cage seeking his first promotional victory. This will be his first bout in two and a half years after a no contest at Combat Quest 5 against PFL veteran and current Bellator welterweight, Michael Lombardo. Pulley has quite the resume as he’s scored victories over Grant Dawson and Jason Witt as well as shared the cage with Drakkar Klose and Jonavin Webb. Pulley is as game as they come and is always willing to fight whoever is put in front of him. The striker packs a mean punch and is know for his knockout ability. In his eight wins, he’s scored six by way of knockout and has never been submitted in his career. As this bout is scheduled for four, or five, five-minute rounds, it won’t be a surprise if it ends prior to that.
Some other notable names on the card include Dana White’s Contender Series veteran, Brandon Lewis (5-1), former CFFC lightweight champion, Zulkarnaiyn Kamchybekov (5-2), Jiu-Jitsu wizard, Jonathan Piersma (3-0 1NC) and four-time amateur champion, Jorge Molina (0-0).
