“The D’arce Knight” Kyle Daukaus demonstrates his signature choke

Kyle Daukaus has found a nickname that he likes, and it fits him like a glove. Enter “the D’arce Knight”.

After his submission victory in the first round at this past weekend’s UFC Vegas 48, Daukaus now has 11 professional wins with six of them coming via the D’arce choke.   He now moves to 11-2 and his impressive showing in the co-main event should boost his stock in the eyes of the UFC brass.

I took the ride over the bridge to Northeast Philadelphia to check in with Kyle at Martinez BJJ to ask about his new nickname and his finish a fraction of a second before the bell in round one.  Daukaus gave us a quick tutorial on the choke that he has used on a regular basis.  Patrick “the Brick” Brady was a willing tap out victim, and head coach Will Martinez narrated it for us.

Daukaus was right back in the gym after his return from Las Vegas because he has lots more to do.  He tells MyMMANews

“I was very happy with my performance. We felt that I dominated the whole fight both standing up and when it went to the ground, but now it’s time to get back to work.  My brother, Chris is in his second consecutive main event on March 26th against Curtis Blaydes and Pat Brady also fights the following week in a main event at Art of War Cage Fighting.  It’s very busy around here and there is a lot of talent in this room and many of them have fights coming up.  I will be here helping in any way I can.  It’s about the team right now.”

The Daukaus brothers are a combined 23-6 with 19 finishes.  They are doing their part and then some, contributing to the Philly MMA surgency into the UFC.  Sean Brady, Patrick Sabatini, Andre Petroski, Jeremiah Wells, Bill Algeo and who knows, maybe Paul Felder will return to the Octagon to continue leaving the Philadelphia stamp of authority while racking up wins in the UFC right now.
