Santo Curatolo puts his flyweight title on the line against Alberto Trujillo in the CFFC 87 main event inside the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Friday, Oct. 30.

CFFC 87 results: Alberto Trujillo dethrones Santo Curatolo in round two

Alberto Trujillo capped off back-to-back nights of Cage Fury Fighting Championships events by dethroning CFFC flyweight champion Santo Curatolo at CFFC 87 on Friday, Oct. 30.

Trujillo finished Curatolo via first-round TKO in the main event of the evening. From a six-second knockout to a three-round heavyweight war, CFFC 87 featured a little bit of everything.

Luke Fernandez vs. Josh Wotring

Luke Fernandez put on a ground and pound clinic in his amateur debut. Fernandez took down Wotring to the canvas and capitalized on the position by reigning down ground and pound.

Fernandez looked to trap the arm and cranked for the key lock. Wotring tapped and referee Bill Bookwalter stepped in.

Nick Caracappa vs. Jeff Taylor

Nick Caracappa showed a very small sample size in his amateur debut, but displayed so much at the same time. The former NJSIAA state qualifying wrestler landed an overhand right that put Taylor to the floor. Caracappa came away with a six-second knockout in his amateur debut.

CFFC 87 main card:

Turpal Khamzayev vs. Daniel Rodriguez

Khamzayev stayed content to stay on his feet and for good reason. Khmazayev and Rodriguez both traded on the feet, but Khamzayev found the target more often.

With under a minute left int he first round, Khamzayev landed a right hand that sent Rodriguez to his back. Khamzayev pounced on top of Rodriguez, forcing referee Bill Bookwalter to stop the fight.

Khamzayev improves to 2-3 as Rodriguez drops to 1-2.

Ben Coyle vs. Phumi Nkuta

Phumi Nkuta dominated the position battles against Ben Coyle. Nkuta bested Coyle on the feet and controlled from the ground after scoring an early takedown in round one.

The second round started very similar. Nkuta came out aggressive on his feet, but eventually scored the single-leg takedown.

Nkuta took over from there, eventually cranking the americana for the tap. Nkuta moves to 2-0 as a professional as Coyle falls in his pro debut.

Justin Clarke vs. Matt Turnbull

Clarke showed a little bit of everything in his decision win over Matt Turnbull. Clarke unloaded punches on Turnbull early in the first round, but Turnbull showcased his toughness and survived.

Clarke scored a takedown later in a dominant first round and bested Turnbull on the ground.

Turnbull’s closest chance to victory came in round two when he attempted a belly-down armbar. Clarke escaped and bloodied up Turnbull on the ground for the remainder of round two.

Round three stayed on the feet as Turnbull lit up Clarke in the stand-up department. Turnbull kept eating shots, but came forward. Turnbull even attempted a super-man punch off the cage.

In the end, Turnbull’s toughness got him through all three rounds, but Clarke earned the unanimous decision nod. Clarke stays undefeated as he improves to 4-0, while Turnbull falls to 2-3.

Ryan Rizco vs. Paris Artis

A lop-sided first round for Ryan Rizco ended with a head kick knockout from Paris Artis. After spending most of the round on the ground, Artis dropped Rizco.

Rizco took Artis down early in round one. Artis kept defending, scrambling to his feet. Each time, Rizco returned Artis to the mat.

Referee Bill Bookwalter stepped in to break up the action, warning Rizco of illegal punches to the back of the head.

After the fight continued, Artis had the final stay. As Rizco came forward, Artis changed level and landed the fight-ending head kick.

Artis appeared to be upset about hurting Rizco. Rizco and Artis embraces in the center of the cage. Great show of sportsmanship.

Artis remains undefeated at 4-0 and Rizco suffers his first pro loss, falls to 2-1.

Dustin Joynson vs. Carl Seumanutafa

Dustin Joynson made the third round his in order to beat Carl Seumanutafa via decision.

Joynson took it to Seumanutafa early, landing numerous knees from the clinch to take the first round. Seumanutafa changed the momentum by scoring a takedown in round two. Seumanutafa controlled majority of the second.

Joynson turned the fight back around in the third by and keeping the fight on the feet. Joynson controlled Seumanutafa against the cage, finding a home for the knees up the middle. Seumanutafa kept it competitive, chewing up Joynson’s lead leg with low kicks.

Joynson did enough to pursued the judges in the end.

Joynson improves to 6-0, while Seumanutafa falls to 12-12.

CFFC Flyweight Championship: Santo Curatolo [C] vs. Alberto Trujillo

Alberto Trujillo silenced the crowd at the 2300 Arena by finishing Santo Curatolo in the second round.

Trujillo picked the champion apart on the feet in front of a Curatolo-heavy crowd. Trujillo entered enemy territory on his way to becoming the new CFFC flyweight champion.

Curatolo came out aggressive in round one and unloaded punches on Trujillo. No matter how much Curatolo came forward, Trujillo refused to go away.

Trujillo weathered the storm while Curatolo started to slow down.

Curatolo entered the second round for the first time in his career, a round where Trujillo dominated on his way to winning the belt. Trujillo moves to 5-1, while Curatola suffers his first defeat, drops to 5-1.

Trujillo dethrones Curatolo, wins via TKO at 4:18 in round 2.
