CFFC 97’s James Lyons: “I’ll win the fight wherever it goes”
Interview with James Lyons above
Following a dominant first round TKO stoppage at CFFC 94 taking out Cody Zappone in his pro debut, James “LyonHeart” Lyons is set to make his second walk as a professional.
Saturday, May 29th at CFFC 97, Lyons takes on undefeated, Beau Samaniego at the historical 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, airing live and exclusively on UFC Fight Pass.
Considering Lyons’ caliber in grappling, fans were quite surprised to see Lyons forego multiple submission opportunities in his debut, opting to implement his improving striking.
“It was time for me to go out and display my striking,” Lyons says. “I could sit here and talk all day about how I’ve gotten better but I had to prove it.”
Following suit from a dominant debut, Lyons plans “to showcase some more striking and some more of my game this fight,” he says. “Actions speak louder than words. I can say all these things, but I still have to go out and prove it and that’s what I’ll do May 29th.”
Discussing his opponent, the featherweight prospect thinks “it’s a good matchup for me,” Lyons says. “He’s good. He’s undefeated,” Lyons credits his upcoming opponent. “He’s going to come out very confident, as will I. And I think it’s a good matchup for me. I think if he wants to try to grapple, I think that’s very bad for him. And I think he’s going to get a little desperate on the feet. I’m going to be able to pick my shots and put him away.”
Oozing with confidence, Lyons says “If he wants to grapple, we’ll grapple. If he wants to stand, we’ll stand. I’ll win the fight wherever it goes.” Predicting, “I think I’m going to stop him with strikes,” he says. “First round”
