Chris Weidman hoping for UFC return at International Fight Week

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman says he is hoping for his UFC return to come at International Fight Week.

At UFC 261 in April 2021, Weidman took on Chris Weidman and suffered a brutal leg break just seconds into the fight. It was obvious that Weidman was hurt badly as he went down after a checked kick, and he had to be stretchered out of the Octagon. It’s now been two years away from the Octagon for Weidman, and he is finally hoping he will return to action this summer.

Speaking to “UFC Unfiltered” in a recent interview, “The All-American” confirmed that his plan is to fight again this summer, and he’s hoping to fight during International Fight Week.

“I think in the summer – sometime in the summer. I was saying June, but I’m thinking maybe International Fight Week. Sometime around that time period, I’ll be good to go (at) 185. I got down to 210 for this grappling event and my weight’s not flying back up again, so I’ll be good. I’ll be good to make 185 now,” Weidman said (via MMAjunkie.com).

While Weidman has competed at both 185lbs and 205lbs in the UFC, he hopes to return as a middleweight for his Octagon comeback, which makes sense, given that is where he has achieved his greatest success inside the Octagon. It was 10 years ago this year that Weidman knocked out Anderson Silva to claim the UFC middleweight title, and a decade later, he will look to join Silva as fighters who have returned from devastating leg injuries to continue competing. It has obviously been a very tough path for Weidman to overcome, but the fact that he has been through so much just to get back here shows you how hungry he is again.

Do you think Chris Weidman will do well in his UFC return following his broken leg?
