Ciryl Gane on fighting the “GOAT” Jon Jones at heavyweight: “I love this fight”

UFC heavyweight contender Ciryl Gane says he’s looking forward to seeing Jon Jones move up in weight, saying that he would love to fight him.

Gane (7-0) is the No. 7 ranked heavyweight in the UFC and he’s someone who many fans and analysts have pegged as a future champion. The 30-year-old Frenchmen has only been a professional MMA fighter since 2018 and he has already won seven fights, including six by stoppage. Since joining the UFC in 2019, Gane is 4-0 in the UFC with wins over Raphael Pessoa, Don’Tale Mayes, Tanner Boser, and most recently, former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos. The JDS win put Gane into the UFC heavyweight top 10 and he’s likely only one or two more wins from a title shot now. However, one thing complicating his own title shot timeframe is Jones, who is set to make his heavyweight debut soon.

Jones, the former UFC light heavyweight champion, vacated the 205lbs belt last summer and is set to move to heavyweight sometime this summer. According to UFC president Dana White, Jones will take on the winner of UFC 260’s main event rematch between Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou. With Gane set to take on No. 3 ranked Jairzinho Rozenstruik later this month, a win in that fight will push Gane closer to the top of the division, and a year from now, that could mean a date with Jones. Speaking to MMANews.com’s James Lynch, Gane praised Jones for being the greatest of all time (the GOAT). Gane said it’s because Jones is such an all-time great that he wants to test his skills out against him.

“The GOAT. That’s really crazy. That’s really crazy. I can’t wait to see that. I can’t wait if he’s going to manage or not with the big guys. But I saw he did a real transformation with his body so yes, I can’t wait,” Gane said.

“I love this fight, really. I love this fight. He can do anything, you understand? And I want to beat this kind of fighter.”

Gane has a big fight coming up at the end of the month against Rozenstruik, so he can’t look too far ahead just yet. But it’s possible that in a year from now, the big fight in the UFC heavyweight division could very well be Jones vs. Gane.

Do you think we will see Ciryl Gane take on Jon Jones in the Octagon one day?
