Ciryl Gane praises “legends” Alistair Overeem and Junior dos Santos following UFC cuts

UFC heavyweight contender Ciryl Gane praised “legends” Alistair Overeem and Junior dos Santos following their cuts by the UFC.

UFC president Dana White promised in late 2020 that up to 60 fighters would be cut from the promotion’s roster, Overeem and dos Santos became the latest fighters to get the ax. Overeem was released following a TKO loss to Alexander Volkov in his last outing, while dos Santos has lost four straight fights, including a TKO loss to Gane at UFC 256 that ended up marking his last fight in the promotion. The day after Overeem and dos Santos were cut by the UFC, Gane took to his social media to offer up praise to his divisional rivals following their UFC releases.

So much respect for these 2 legends @junior_cigano @Alistairovereem , what careers! I hope to be as successful in the sport as you have been! #ufclegacy #ufchalloffame

Many fans and media believe that Gane could very well become a legend himself one day. He’s well on the way to doing so after defeating Jairzinho Rozenstruik in his last fight and breaking into the top-five. When you look at dos Santos, he’s one of the greatest heavyweights in MMA history. The former UFC champion dos Santos picked up wins over the likes of Stipe Miocic, Fabricio Werdum, and Cain Velasquez during his UFC run. While it may have ended on a sour note following four straight TKO defeats, dos Santos is still an absolute legend through and through.

As for Overeem, he might not have won the UFC championship, but he was the Strikeforce heavyweight champion before joining the UFC, and with over 60 MMA fights, he’s simply one of the most experienced fighters we’ve ever seen compete in the sport. Overeem was actually ranked in the top-10 of the division and had won four of five heading into the Volkov fight. But after being knocked out for the eighth time in the UFC, the promotion decided to cut him. He might not have ever reached his goal of UFC champion, but hes’ still one of the all-time greats.

Do you think Ciryl Gane will following the footsteps of Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem and become a world champion one day?
