Colby Covington claims Jorge Masvidal isn’t interested in fighting him because it’s a bad ‘style matchup’

Colby Covington wants to fight Jorge Masvidal but he claims “Gamebred” isn’t interested in the fight.

After Covington TKO’d Tyron Woodley in the fifth round, many fans had hoped the UFC would book the grudge match between him and Masvidal. However, no fight has been booked, and according to “Chaos” that is because Masvidal doesn’t want the fight.

“Yeah, last time I talked to him and Dana, they just said they have to get Jorge on board and have to get him to sign. They said it was going to be a tough task because he doesn’t want to fight me,” Covington said on Submission Radio. “They pretty much told me, he plain and simple told them, he didn’t like the style matchup. You’re in the UFC fighting the best fighters in the world. You claim to want to be the best in the world, and you don’t like a style matchup? Like, what is this, The Real Divas of Atlanta? What are we doing? I thought we were in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, you know, not the Ultimate Feelings Championship. That’s why he has never been an Ultimate Fighting Champion, he has been nothing more than a Broken Mediocre Fighting champion.”

Covington returned to the win column back in September with the win over Woodley. Before that, he suffered a fifth-round TKO loss to Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title. He’s also the former interim welterweight champion.

Jorge Masvidal, meanwhile, is coming off a decision loss to Usman at UFC 251 for the welterweight title. Gamebred stepped up on short notice after Gilbert Burns was forced to pull out. Before the loss to Usman, he had TKO’d Nate Diaz to win the BMF title to cap off an incredible 2019.

Whether or not the UFC will be able to book Colby Covington vs. Jorge Masvidal is uncertain at this point.
