Conor McGregor calls for a fight with Justin Gaethje
It was only a matter of time until Conor McGregor would make a comment regarding the UFC 249 interim lightweight championship fight between Justin Gaethje and Tony Ferguson. Turns out not only did he break his silence today, but he went on a Twitter rant.
McGregor started his series of tweets by demanding a fight. Surprisingly he wasn’t demanding his rival Khabib Nurmagomedov, but instead he called for Gaethje, who won the interim championship on Saturday. McGregor’s twitter rant also took a shot at Gaethje’s September 2019 tweet calling McGregor a “s— human, father and husband.”
“The fans make the sport!” McGregor wrote on Twitter. “Watching the other night, I was against going in without them. But it will be my f—ing pleasure to display the power I possess with zero background noise for them. It’s me and Justin next as Khabib is the biggest bottle fighter in the game. Guarantee it.
“Justin, there is no danger in a man that hugs legs, we all know. Try and dance around what the real threat is here all you want. I am going to f—ing butcher you. Your teeth. I’m going to put them on a f—ing necklace. Speak on my skills as a father? You are f—ing dead.”

McGregor, 31, would also go on to praise Ferguson for his toughness in his fifth-round TKO loss which ended Ferguson’s 12 fight winning streak.
While McGregor now wants a fight with Gaethje, he may have to wait his turn to get a crack at him as Gaethje is expected to fight Nurmagomedov for the undisputed title later this year.
Ali Abdelaziz, who manages both Nurmagomedov and Gaethje, told ESPN that there is no chance McGregor would get a fight a fight with either one of his clients.
“Right now is the holy month of Ramadan, so I cannot talk about anyone out of respect of Ramadan,” Abdelaziz said. “He had a chance to fight Justin in January, and he picked [Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone] instead. He picked the easier fight. Now, the two kings of the division will fight. Maybe Conor can fight someone in the co-main event.”
McGregor (22-4) has called 2020 his “season” and said he would like to fight three times during the year. So far he’s fought once in January at UFC 246 picking up a 40 second win over Donald Cerrone. His last tweet of his rant said “See you in July.”
