Conor McGregor says he’s accepted UFC offer to fight Dustin Poirier
It appears as if a fight between former two-weight champion Conor McGregor and former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier is drawing closer to happening. The fight first started to come together when McGregor challenged Poirier to a charity exhibition fight, which was then followed by UFC President Dana White saying he offered both men the fight, and then Poirier saying this week this fight makes a lot of sense for McGregor to take.
On Thursday, McGregor ignited the flames on this fight, when he took to social media to let Poirier know he has accepted the UFC’s offer to fight him, but his only stipulation is that the fight must happen in 2020, while the UFC has already offered for the bout to take place in 2021.
Hello Dustin! I accepted the @ufc offer to fight you, but told them it must happen in 2020. I’m ready for Nov 21st, given that cards recent injury issues, as well as any of the December dates, the 12th and the 19th. I’ll also still donate the $500k to The Good Fight Foundation 🙏 https://t.co/23hN4AHtoI

To add to McGregor’s comments, ESPN’s Ariel Helwani confirmed what McGregor posted himself, saying that while the UFC offered the fight in January of 2021, “The Notorious” has said he wants the fight to happen on the November or December PPV card.
As noted on Twitter, Conor McGregor has accepted a fight vs. Dustin Poirier. UFC offered the fight on 1/23. McGregor, per sources, said he wants to fight again in 2020 & doesn’t want to wait. He asked to book it on the 11/21 or 12/12 PPV. He’s awaiting a reply from UFC, I’m told.

It would appear that both Poirier and McGregor are on the same page and now they’re just awaiting word from the UFC as to if they can make the fight happen in November or December.
UFC 255 is scheduled to take place in November and recently suffered a loss to the scheduled main event flyweight title fight when former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt had to withdraw from his fight against Deiveson Figueiredo due to a bicep injury.
UFC 256 is scheduled to take place in December and is currently without a main event as the hopeful main event was to be a welterweight title fight between champion Kamaru Usman and challenger Gilbert Burns, but that fight has been put on hold as Usman needs more time to recover from injuries.
With seemingly two main event spots open in November and December, the UFC has plenty of choices if they decide to make Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier, a rematch from their 2014 fight, which McGregor won by first-round TKO.
