Cortney Casey discusses her win over Liana Jojua at UFC Vegas 42

Cortney Casey knows what it’s like to injure her hand during a fight.

Throughout her career, she has suffered a number injuries to her hand and whenever it happens, Casey continues to fight through the pain and at UFC Vegas 42, Casey found herself back in that same spot.

In the opening round of the fight, Casey was making the best of her long reach advantage as she picked apart Liana Jojua throughout the course of the first five minutes. Somewhere in the first round, Casey through a right hand that landed hard and she immediately knew her hand was hurt and possibly broken.

Despite the pain, Casey kept to her game plan of staying long and continued to piece apart Jojua. Every time she had an opening to land her right hand, she continued to throw it despite the pain.

While the fight had some painful moments for Casey, her performances was flawless as easily left the octagon that night with a unanimous decision win in which all three judges scored every round in her favor.

Following the win, Casey spoke to MyMMANews while wearing a brace over her right hand as she awaits an official wording on the extend of the injury. Aside from talking about the injured hand, she also discussed the approach in the lead up to the fight as the fight was originally scheduled over the summer, but was pushed back due to Jojua having visa issues.
