Cortney Casey talks upcoming fight, UTEP soccer & family
Cortney Casey has a lot going on in her life as she’s a mom, she’s takes care of chickens and she’s a full time fighter.
This is a busy time of the year for the UFC veteran as not only is dealing with the everyday loaded scheduled of mother of the household, but she also has a fight book.
On Aug. 21, Casey will take on Liana Jojua in at flyweight bout at UFC Vegas 34. The fight will marked her fourth at 125 pounds.
Casey started off her flyweight tenure with a submission win over Mara Romero Borella in May 2020 and the submission earned her a fight of the night bonus. Since the win, Casey lost back-to-back fights to Gillian Robertson and JJ Aldrich.
The Aldrich loss came with some controversy as many media members and fans scored the fight in her favorite, but two of the three judges at octagon side scored the fight for Aldrich. That fight was the fourth time in Casey’s UFC career in which a fight has come down to a split decision and she only secured one victory out of the four.
Prior to UFC Vegas 34, Casey spoke to MyMMANews about her preparation, the fight itself and the mind set of looking for a finish after so many narrow losses. Casey also discussed life outside of the cage as she talked about her family and her college soccer career at UTEP.
