Cris Cyborg KO's Sinead Kavanagh, makes third defense of title at Bellator 271

Cris Cyborg “of course” still interested in Amanda Nunes rematch

Bellator women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg said that “of course” she is still interested in the Amanda Nunes rematch.

Cyborg returns to the cage this Saturday at Bellator 279 when she takes on Arlene Blencowe in a rematch. The fight marks the end of Cyborg’s contract with Bellator, and it will be interesting to see what she does next after this fight. Since joining Bellator in 2020, Cyborg is a perfect 4-0 and has won her last four fights by stoppage. She becomes a free agent once again after this upcoming fight with Blencowe, and once that happens, there will be plenty of fans who will be asking her to re-join the UFC so she can have a rematch against Nunes.

Cyborg and Nunes met at UFC 219 in December 2018 in a highly-anticipated fight between the two Brazilian strikers, and Nunes flatlined Cyborg in the first round to capture the UFC women’s featherweight title. The hope was that the two would rematch, but after beating Felicia Spencer in July 2019, the UFC released Cyborg, with UFC president Dana White suggesting she was hard to work with. Since Cyborg left the UFC, the Nunes rematch was off the table. But despite being in another organization, Cyborg is still holding out hopes that she can fight Nunes again.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Cyborg confirmed her interest in fighting Nunes a second time.

“Yes, of course,” Cyborg said of her interest in a rematch with Nunes. “At the beginning, after the loss, I said I wanted the rematch, but we couldn’t do a deal together, me and Dana White, to make it happen. But you never know. You never know the future. Only God knows. Yeah, for sure, maybe a different organization, maybe we’re going to make the fight happen, I don’t know.”
