A Vintage Cub Swanson Showed Up Last Night at UFC 256

Cub Swanson returns in December against Darren Elkins

Cub Swanson and Darren Elkins will finally be sharing the Octagon with one another.

Swanson and Elkins are two of the most veteran featherweights on the UFC roster and the UFC announced they will lock horns on December 18 which is a Fight Night card and the final card of the year.  It will be a battle of two fan-favorite veterans. The event is expected to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card will also be headlined by a heavyweight bout between Derrick Lewis and Chris Daukaus.

Cub Swanson (27-12) is coming off a first-round TKO loss to Giga Chikadze back in May which snapped his two-fight winning streak. During his run, he TKO’d Daniel Pineda and beat Kron Gracie by decision. Before the win over Gracie, Swanson was on a four-fight losing skid where he lost to Brian Ortega, Frankie Edgar, Renato Moicano, and Shane Burgos. The 37-year-old has been in the UFC since 2011 and prior to that was in the WEC from 2007 until the promotion was bought by the UFC. In his career, he holds notable wins over Dustin Poirier, Charles Oliveira, Jeremy Stephens, Artem Lobov, and Ross Pearson among countless others. He has never fought for the UFC or WEC title but has headlined four UFC events. Inside the Octagon he has a record of 12-8.

Darren Elkins (26-9) is riding a two-fight winning streak and coming off a TKO win over Darrick Minner in July after defeating Luiz Eduardo Garagorri by decision in November. He too was on a four-fight losing streak before that as he lost to Nate Landwehr, Ryan Hall, Ricardo Lamas, and Alexander Volknanovski. The 37-year-old has been in the UFC since 2010 and is 16-8 inside the Octagon. He holds notable wins over Mirsad Bektic, Michael Johnson, Chas Skelly, Duane Ludwig, Diego Brandao, and Steven Siler among others.
