Damon Jackson discusses his upcoming fight at Dan Ige

Damon Jackson wanted a chance to crack the UFC featherweight rankings and now he will get the opportunity to do so.

In September, following his win over Pat Sabatini, Jackson told MyMMANews that he wanted a quick turnaround and he had some ideas of who he wanted to fight.

Rather than waiting for the UFC matchmakers to call, he took matters into his own hands and messaged Julian Erosa, Alex Caceres and Dan Ige and asked if they wanted to fight in December or January.

Erosa responded and said he was already booked to face Caceres in December, so that only left Ige.

As it turned out, Ige would respond to Jackson and he told him that he’s been on an impressive winning streak and he would love to fight him.

With both Jackson and Ige on board, the UFC had no problem booking the matchup and just like that, the two were booked for UFC Vegas 67 on Jan. 14.

When the two meet in the first UFC event of 2023, Jackson will look to extend his winning streak to five straight victories and in the process secure a spot in the top 15 as Ige comes into the fight ranked No. 13.

Prior to the fight, Jackson spoke with MyMMANews about his matchup with Ige, his process of booking the fight, the success of his Fortis MMA teammates and his love for the Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Stars.

You can watch his full interview in the video above.
