Dana White says Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler could happen this fall

Dana White isn’t as optimistic as everyone originally thought about Conor McGregor’s long awaited return to the octagon. Just a month ago, Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler were announced for June 29th. After an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, that may not be the case any longer.

Check out the clip below:

It seems White has moved from the International Fight Week date of June 29th as initially proposed. Fall seems to be the target, though White does say he’s hoping that it will be this year.

Dana White, Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler

As mentioned earlier, McGregor announced his return last month on June 29th against Michael Chandler. He also mentioned that the fight wouldn’t be at 155 or 170, but middleweight of all divisions.

McGregor has been out since he broke his leg in his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier two years ago. During his recovery, he coached on The Ultimate Fighter with Michael Chandler and many thought a fight with the two was imminent. Instead, Chandler and McGregor have been forced to sit out for some time waiting on the green light from the UFC.

Fans have been wondering if McGregor would be the surprise fight for the main event of UFC 300 but this news from Dana White nips that in the bud.

Conor McGregor has stayed busy in his two years off. He released a documentary on Netflix titled McGregor Forever. He is also starting in Road House, a remake of the cult classic film, with Jake Gyllenhaal.

McGregor has two fights remaining on his contract with the UFC. With this fight looming and major a TV rights looming for later in the year, the UFC will want to have big fights lined up for that deal.

It is unclear when or if Conor McGregor will fight Michael Chandler. Stay posted to My MMA News for when that fight is finally announced.
