Dana White says UFC matchmakers are talking to Nick Diaz about possible comeback

Nick Diaz may very well be returning to the Octagon as UFC president, Dana White revealed the matchmakers have spoken to Diaz about returning.

Diaz spoke to ESPN earlier this year and said he wants to return and fight Jorge Masvidal after “Gamebred” TKO’d Nate Diaz at UFC 244. Since then, White says he hasn’t spoken to the elder Diaz but knows the matchmakers have.

“I haven’t, but I know that our matchmakers have [spoken to Diaz],” White said to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto (via BJPENN.com).

Although the UFC matchmakers have talked to Nick Diaz, Dana White says he isn’t sure if Diaz even wants to fight again. He believes the Stockton native no longer loves fighting or has the passion anymore.

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I don’t think Nick Diaz wants to fight,” he explained. “I don’t think Nick has that love or that passion for fighting. I think that it’s sort of a love-hate relationship for him. All the things that Nick has or has done is because of fighting, but I don’t think that he loves to do it.”

Nick Diaz has not fought since UFC 183 in January of 2015 where he originally lost to Anderson Silva but the fight was overturned to a no-contest due after both failed drug tests. Before that, he dropped decisions to Georges St-Pierre for the title and Carlos Condit for the interim strap.

The 36-year-old has notable wins in his career over the likes of B.J. Penn, Paul Daley, Frank Shamrock, Robbie Lawler, Gleison Tibau, and Chris Lytle.

But, whether or not he will add to the list is ultimately up to Nick Diaz and whether he fights again according to White.

“[A comeback] is up to Nick. Nick knows whether he wants to fight or not,” White said.
