Dana White will not promote a potential boxing match between Roy Jones Jr. and Anderson Silva
Dana White has made it clear throughout the years that he is not a fan of elderly fighters continuing to fight.
In was very vocal about how much he disproved Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell fighting two years ago. In recent months he’s made it clear that he doesn’t want Anderson Silva or Shogun Rua fighting anymore.
Yet last night, the UFC president did admit that he had a tiny interest in the Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. fight which ended in a draw. While he did have a small interest the fight, don’t let it fool you, White doesn’t want anything to do with it.
Following UFC Vegas 15 last night, White spoke to reporters at his post-fight press conference and he made it clear the rumor of Jones Jr. and Silva boxing one another ever comes true, then he will not have anything to do with the fight.
“Anderson Silva had his day. Roy Jones Jr. had his day,” White said. “Today is not their day. It’s just not,” he continued. “These young guys that you saw fight tonight are the future. These are the guys that are up and coming, and this is what I’m interested in. This is what I love to do. I could sit here all (expletive) night and watch kids that fought tonight fight. It’s what I love to do. It’s just not what I really love to do. There’s plenty of people out there that do that. Plenty of people that do the ‘old guy’ stuff. I don’t do the ‘old guy’ stuff.”
Dana White also said he understands why people want to watch these types of fights because of how popular some of these fighters were back in their prime. However he’s not going to ever promote those types of events.
“When you’re a fight fan, I want to see the best in the world, the best up-and-coming kids, the best in the world,” he said. “I want to see these guys fight and I want to know who is the baddest mother (expletive) in the world in every division. As a fight fan, that’s who I am and that kind of stuff (promoting ‘legend’ fights) doesn’t interest me.
