Danyelle Wolf talks UFC debut and transitioning from boxing to MMA
Danyelle Wolf will finally make her highly anticipated UFC debut this weekend at UFC 279.
For the past two years, fans have been waiting to see Wolf fight inside of the octagon because of her amazing athletic career which dates back to her days growing up in York, Pa.
After graduating high school where Wolf played field hockey, basketball and track and field, she went on to Millersville University where she competed at the NCAA Division II level in field hockey and track and field.
Following Wolf’s college career, she decided to give boxing a try and ended being a force in the sport as she would go on to win three straight United States national titles and the National Golden Gloves title in 2014.
While she was successful as an amateur boxer, her weight class wasn’t added to the Olympics until late in her career and she never competed in the Olympic games.
In 2020, Wolf went to the Olympic trials and did not qualify for the games so immediately following the trials, she made a quick decision.
Without too much MMA experience, Wolf took a short notice opportunity to compete on Dana White’s Contender Series in her first professional fight. As it turns out that was good decision as Wolf would go on to earn a unanimous decision on the show and UFC president Dana White signed her to a contract.
After signing with the UFC, Wolf wanted to take some time to get better at the sport so she teamed up with Dominick Cruz and Alliance MMA to improve her skills.
During the span of the last two years, Wolf did suffer two injuries that set her back, but she still believes she was able to use the last two years to really grow in the sport and she cannot wait to fight this weekend.
Prior to UFC 279, Wolf spoke with MyMMANews about her upcoming fight, transitioning from boxing to MMA and growing up in Pennsylvania. You can watch her full interview in the video above.
