Adriano Moraes Retains ONE Flyweight World Title With Shocking Knockout of Demetrious Johnson

Demetrious Johnson set to rematch Adriano Moraes for ONE’s flyweight title in August

Demetrious Johnson will look to become the ONE Championship flyweight champ.

According to MMA reporter, Ariel Helwani, ONE is set to have its first event on Amazon Prime on Friday, August 26 with the main event being Johnson vs. Moraes 2 for the belt. The event will air live on primetime in the United States and will take place in the early morning hours in Singapore. The news is expected to be made official during the ONE 158 broadcast on Friday.

Of course, ONE Championship had recently inked a multi-event deal with Prime Video to exclusively air its events in the US and Canada. Johnson and Moraed had also met back in April of 2021 when Moraes had won by second-round KO to defend his belt.

Demetrious Johnson (30-4-1), as mentioned, has not fought in MMA since he suffered the KO loss to Moraes back a ONE on TNT 1 for the flyweight title. He did a special mixed rules bout against Rodtang Jitmuangnon and won the fight by second-round submission as the fight turned to MMA after the first round being kickboxing.

Johnson had started out his ONE tenure 3-0 with a submission win over Yuya Wakamatsu, as well as decision wins over Tatsumitsu Wada and Danny Kingad to win the ONE flyweight grand prix. He was traded to ONE Championship for Ben Askren after he lost his UFC’s flyweight title to Henry Cejudo.

Adriano Moraes (20-3) last fought back in March as he submitted Wakamatsu to defend his flyweight title after he KO’d Johnson for his first title defense since reclaiming his belt. He had won the title by beating Geje Eustaquio by decision after dropping a split to Eustaquio to lose the belt. The American Top Team product holds notable wins over Kingad, Yashuiro Urushitani, and Kairat Akhmetov as well as being the three-time flyweight champ.
