Dominick Cruz vs. Pedro Munhoz targeted for UFC 269

An intriguing bantamweight matchup between former champion Dominick Cruz and top contender Pedro Munhoz is being targeted for UFC 269.

MMAFighting.com was the first to reveal that Cruz vs. Munhoz is in the works for UFC 269, which is set to take place on December 11. According to the report, verbal agreements are in place for the fight to take place.

Cruz (23-3) is the No. 11 ranked bantamweight in the UFC. The 36-year-old American is a two-time UFC bantamweight champion. In his most recent fight, he beat Casey Kenney by split decision at UFC 259 to bounce back following back-to-back losses to Henry Cejudo and Cody Gabrandt. One of the greatest bantamweight fighters of all time, Cruz has only fought twice in the last five years. He’s a fighter whose career was very much derailed by injuries, but even despite all of what he’s gone through, he is still ticking. Cruz has been chasing for a fight against someone ranked in the top-10 at 135lbs, and now he will get it when Munhoz steps up.

Munhoz (19-6, 1 NC) is the No. 9 ranked bantamweight in the UFC. The 35-year-old Brazilian has struggled as of late with a 1-3 record in his last four fights, but you have to look closer at who he has fought. Munhoz has a win over Jimmie Rivera during that time with his losses coming against Aljamain Sterling, Frankie Edgar, and Jose Aldo. Overall, Munhoz is one of the top-15 bantamweights in the sport today, but he has been open about potentially moving down to flyweight in the future. It appears as though this chance to fight someone with a name as big as Cruz’s was just too much for him to pass on and he will fight him this December at UFC 269.

Who do you think wins this bantamweight bout at UFC 269 between Dominick Cruz and Pedro Munhoz?
