Drew Dober, UFC Vegas 80

Drew Dober gets back on the winning track, TKO’s Ricky Glenn early at UFC Vegas 80

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, October 7, 2023, for UFC Vegas 80, going down live from the UFC Apex in Enterprise, Nevada.

Headlining the event is a lightweight affair between no. 10 ranked Grant Dawson (20-1-1) and longtime 155 lb staple Bobby Green (30-14-1).

Co-headlining the event is a welterweight bout showcasing a pair of knockout artists in Joe Pyfer (11-2) and Abdul Razak Alhassan (12-5).

Our first feature fight of the evening came in the lightweight division between Drew Dober (27-12) and former WSOF featherweight champion Ricky Glenn (22-8-2).

Dober came into the bout off a loss to Matt Frevola and had gone 6-3 over his last nine appearances, all six wins coming via knockout. Glenn on the other hand came in having gone 1-1-1 over his last three, the win and loss both coming via KO, and the draw coming against main eventer Grant Dawson in what was certainly Dawson’s toughest fight to date.

Official Result: Drew Dober def. Rick Glenn via TKO (punches) at 2:36 of round one

It didn’t take long for Dober to find his range in this one. He first lands a good left hand behind the ear of Glenn that immediately backs him up. From here he marched Glenn down and threw a wide array of punches from right and left hooks, overhands, and accurate uppercuts.

Eventually Glenn drops, where Dober secures the knockout finish via ground and pound.

Drew Dober now has the record for most knockouts in UFC lightweight history with nine, surpassing former interim champion Dustin Poirier’s eight.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
