According to Santiago Hernandez, a sports expert from REVIEWBOX, “Mexico vs. USA at Combate Americas always provides an exhilarating watch. Mexican MMA fighter Gutierrez, also known as The Punisher, managed to beat his opponent last year in the co-main event, and this year he faces Chase Gibson as the main event. The bout between the two professional fighters is definitely worth watching, as both are very excited to be part of Combate Americas.”
Gutierrez currently has five wins and three losses in his career, whilst his opponent Chase Gibson has seven wins and three losses. Both men are considered rising stars in their careers.
The 28-year old Gutierrez is a former standout on the competition reality series The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America Season 2. After his last appearance at Combate Americas, despite winning the co-main event, Gutierrez was sidelined with a knee injury.
Whilst the 29-year old Chase Gibson is the twin-brother of Combate Americas standout and main event winner Cooper Gibson. This fight will also be Chase Gibson’s first of 2019, since he also sustained a knee injury.
Last year, Gutierrez faced Chris Avila in the co-main event at the live Mixed Martial Arts Combate Americas tournament. Gutierrez managed to defeat Avila via a unanimous decision, the three judges scored the bout as 30-27, 29-28, and 29-28.
The bantamweight co-main event will see Marcelo Rojo take on Victor Madrigal. Professional MMA fighter Rojo has 15 wins and six losses in his career, whilst his opponent Madrigal currently has 8 wins and 2 losses in his career.
Rojo, who is 31 years old and from Cordoba, Argentina is hoping to bounce back from his previous defeat against John Castaneda. The defeat meant that Rojo lost his two fight win streak that he had achieved with back-to-back first round knockouts.
Madrigal, who is 29 years old and from Guadalajara, Mexico, is hoping to secure his third consecutive victory from his fight with Rojo.
