Fedor Emelianenko – “Mike Tyson would be an interesting fight”

Fedor Emelianenko is widely considered as on one of the greatest heavyweight mixed martial artists of all time.  One could argue that he is MMA’s equivalent of boxing’s heavyweight legend Mike Tyson.

Now retired from MMA and at age 46, “The Last Emperor” sounds like he is interested in testing his fists against the 57-year-old Tyson.

Emelianenko told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour that though his MMA career is over, he is now looking to try his hand at boxing.

“MMA is done, 100 percent,” Emelianenko said. “I’m not going back to MMA. I want to try myself in boxing. I think that’s going to be interesting.

“After the last fight with Bader, I took a break. I started lifting weights a little bit, got some muscles back so my injuries are going away, so my shoulder feels better a little bit, and I started boxing, so I feel pretty good and pretty confident in boxing.”

But, could you imagine a Fedor Emelianenko vs Mike Tyson boxing match?

“We watched the fight on TV of Roy Jones Jr. vs. Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson would be an interesting fight,” Emelianenko said. “He has a big name, he’s a legend. … It would be interesting because you can see a lot of his videos on YouTube and all over the place, he’s still in good shape. He still works pads, he still has that same power.”-7.

Emelianenko is a former PRIDE FC heavyweight champion and holds a professional MMA record of 40-7.

Tyson is regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time. “The baddest man on the planet” reigned as the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990. Tyson won his first 19 professional fights by knockout, 12 of them in the first round. Claiming his first belt at 20 years, four months, and 22 days old, Tyson holds the record as the youngest boxer ever to win a heavyweight title.
