Forrest Griffin Says Jon Jones Will Get Caught Sooner Or Later
Jon Jones has looked unstoppable throughout his fighting career, but Forrest Griffin believes “Bones” will eventually fall.
Jones has gone unbeaten since a controversial disqualification loss to Matt Hamill back in Dec. 2009. He is in his second reign as the UFC light heavyweight champion if you don’t include his interim title run.
“Bones” was last seen in action earlier this month. He defeated Thiago Santos via split decision.
Speaking to Helen Yee, Griffin, who is a former UFC light heavyweight champion himself and a Hall of Famer, assessed Jones’ performance over Santos (via The Body Lock).
“I think he’s been fighting a lot this year,” Griffin said. “He looked like a guy who had three fights in six months, seven months. It was a decent performance. Thiago Santos is a guy who can take your belt from you with one punch. So he had to fight him in a safe manner. It wasn’t necessarily the most exciting fight but he got the job done.”
Griffin went on to say that it wouldn’t surprise him if someone under the radar swooped in to defeat Jones.
“The last two guys that Jones faced, he obviously had respect for power in their hands,” Griffin added. “If Thiago throws a spinning heel kick, there’s your belt. It’s going to take an anomaly, almost like what happened with GSP. In the sport of MMA, sometimes you just get caught and sooner or later, he’ll get caught.”
Do you see Jon Jones being dethroned anytime soon?
