Frankie Edgar and Cory Sandhagen booked for Feb. 6
Frankie Edgar and Cory Sandhagen will met in a big time bantamweight bout scheduled for a UFC Fight Night on Feb. 6. ESPN was first to report the news of the upcoming fight.
Edgar (24-8-1) made his 135-pound debut in August where him and Pedro Munhoz went through a war. When it their back-and-forth 25 minute slugfest was over, Edgar got the slight nod on the judges scorecards to earn a spilt decision win.
The 39-year-old Edgar is a former UFC champion as he won the lightweight title back in 2012. Following his stint at 155-pounds, Edgar moved down to featherweight and fought for the UFC featherweight belt on three occasions, but he came up short on all three tries. Now he hopes to make a run at the 135-pound bantamweight championship before the curtain closes on his historic career.
Sandhagen (13-2) is coming off a TKO victory over Marlon Moraes in October. That win comes after he lost his only UFC fight at UFC 250 when Aljamain Sterling submitted him in the opening round. Following his October win, Sandhagen called for a fight with either Edgar or former UFC bantamweight champ T.J. Dillashaw. He hopes a win over Edgar will be him a title shot.
