Gilbert Burns fires back at Jorge Masvidal after ‘Gamebred’s’ recent comments: ‘I’m going to make that guy suffer so much’

Gilbert Burns has fired back at Jorge Masvidal.

After the UFC announced Burns would take on Masvidal in the co-main event of UFC 287. Shortly thereafter, Burns called for the fight to be for the BMF belt which ‘Gamebred’ wasn’t keen on. He also didn’t care it was three rounds as he vowed to finish the Brazilian before the fight was over.

“Three rounds is more than enough that I need for Gilbert,” Masvidal said on The MMA Hour. “I like all the publicity and extra that he’s putting into it, but brother, three rounds is all I need for that.”

To no surprise, Burns then fired back at Masvidal as he admitted his disappointment in the fight not being for the BMF belt. But, he says he also doesn’t care it’s not five rounds as he plans on destroying Masvidal and making him suffer for as long as it lasts.

“The main goal is destroying these guys and become champion,” Burns said to MMAFighting. “So if it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen. Three rounds, I’m going to make that guy suffer so much in three rounds that it should be enough, but five rounds just guarantees a finish. If the fight is five rounds, I’ll finish, but if he don’t want it, it’s all good.”

Gilbert Burns (21-5) returned to the win column back in January with a submission win over Neil Magny after losing a decision to Khamzat Chimaev last April. Before the setback to Chimaev, Burns had earned a decision win over Stephen Thompson after losing by TKO to Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title. The Brazilian is currently ranked fifth at welterweight.

Jorge Masvidal (35-16) is on a three-fight losing skid having lost a decision to Colby Covington last time out. Before that, he lost back-to-back fights to Kamaru Usman for the belt, with the second loss coming by KO.
