Gillian Robertson chokes out Cortney Casey in lop-sided affair

The world’s largest MMA promotion is back in Las Vegas, Nevada for the fourth-consecutive week tonight, Saturday, June 20.

UFC on ESPN 11 takes place inside the UFC Apex and is headlined by heavyweight contenders Curtis Blaydes and Alexander Volkov. The co-main event features a featherweight clash between Shane Burgos and Josh Emmett.

Cortney Casey makes a quick turnaround as she faces Gillian Robertson in a women’s flyweight bout. Casey is fresh off a first-round arm-bar victory against Mara Romero Borella at UFC on ESPN 8 on May 16.

She is unbeaten in the UFC’s flyweight division. 

Robertson is coming off a first-round TKO to Maycee Barber at UFC on ESPN 6 in October 2019. It ended a two-fight win streak, where she beat Sarah Frota and Veronica Macedo.

ROUND 1

The two women tap gloves. Robertson throws inside leg kick early. Casey on the outside, looks to land her hands. Robertson changes levels and come up with a right hand. Casey is landing early, Robertson show some red under her eye. Robertson shoots in and scores a takedown. Robertson is in Casey’s half guard. Robertson is looking to pass, trying to push Casey’s left leg away. Casey showing good control on bottom. Robertson lands some short ground and pound. Robertson spends most of the round in the half guard. Casey defends

ROUND 2

Both girls out and center quick. Casey lands an outside leg kick. Casey lands four-straight punches on a combination. Robertson shoots for a takedown, pushes Casey to the cage. Robertson lifts and scores a takedown. Robertson lands some ground and pound. Casey looking for a submission opening from her back. She attempts an arm-bar. Robertson keeps pouring on some ground and pound. Robertson is controlling the fight from the top position. Casey tries to roll and scramble, but Robertson controls the hips. Robertson is able to get back into half guard. Robertson attempts a head and arm choke, but Casey defends. Robertson opts to land some more ground and pound. Robertson ends round two on top.

ROUND 3

Robertson comes right out for the third. Casey remains on the outside, comes forward with a three-punch combination. Casey is landing punches early. Robertson is backing Casey up. Casey continues to land strikes, getting the better of Robertson on the feet. Robertson eats an uppercut, drops for a takedown. Casey defends, but Robertson shoots again and gets Casey to the mat. Casey attempts a belly-down arm-bar, but Robertson remains calm. Robertson  escapes and gets into Casey’s full guard. Robertson lands some ground and pound from top. Casey lands some palm strikes from her back. Robertson is in the half guard of Casey. Robertson is controlling Casey, takes the back. Robertson sinks in the rear-naked choke and Casey taps with about 25 seconds left in the fight.
