Official Result: Grant Dawson def. Mark Madsen via submission (rear naked choke) at 2:05 of round three

Madsen backs Dawson up with a couple jabs and sits him down with a beautiful cross about ten seconds into the fight, and Dawson is already dealing with some adversity.

But, he’s able to adjust and get back to his feet, where he runs the pipe on a single leg and gets the Olympian down.

Dawson proceeds to take Madsen’s back and holds it for the remainder of the round, which was over three minutes.

Madsen looks to land some punches at the start of the second as well, though he’s unable to land any.

Dawson begins to pick Madsen apart, he’s mixing his striking up much better than Madsen, who’s mainly boxing. The James Krause student chases a takedown and is eventually able to secure another single leg and puts Madsen right back on his back.

Dawson remains on top for the rest of the round once again; Madsen just cannot seem to post up and get back to his feet, he’s getting mauled. This is a typical Grant Dawson fight.

18-1-1 vs 12-0, we knew this was going to be a showcase.

And it was, Grant Dawson looked incredible tonight. He really starts to batter Madsen’s leg in the third round, dropping him twice with calf kicks. Dawson then proceeds to follow Madsen to the mat, jumps to mount, takes the back and sinks in the rear naked choke to make him unbeaten in his last 11-straight fights.

Grant Dawson is now 7-0-1 inside the octagon, this being his third victory in the lightweight division.

What’s more, all three of those lightweight wins came via third round finish.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
