Ian Garry becomes first man to ever knock Daniel Rodriguez out at UFC on ABC 4

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to us today, May 13, 2023, for UFC on ABC 4, going down live from the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Headlining the event is a clash of heavyweight contenders as no. 9 ranked kickboxing champion Jairzinho Rozenstruik (13-4) faces off with no. 12 ranked BJJ phenom Jailton Almeida (18-2) in the main event of the evening.

Co-headlining the event is a light-heavyweight affair between no. 5 ranked former title challenger Anthony Smith (36-17) and no. 7 ranked fellow finisher Johnny Walker (20-7).

Our feature fight of the evening came in the welterweight division between former SG welterweight champion Daniel Rodriguez (17-4) and former Cage Warriors welterweight champion Ian Garry (12-0).

Rodriguez came into the bout having lost to Neil Magny in his most recent appearance following a four-fight win streak from 2021 to 2022, while Garry had gone 4-0 thus far into his promotional tenure.

Continue reading to see how this welterweight encounter went down:

Official Result: Ian Garry def. Daniel Rodriguez via TKO (head kick & punches) at 2:57 of round one

Garry looks sharp on the feet in this fight, as he always does; his boxing was on point and he did a good job of baiting Rodriguez into his counters. Garry lands a beautiful right head kick midway through the opening round that hurts and drops Rodriguez.

From here, it only took some ground-and-pound immediately following for him to secure the stoppage victory.

Ian Garry is a seriously talented young man, no one’s ever done that to Daniel Rodriguez before.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
