Ike Villanueva vs. Jorge Gonzalez moved to Aug. 22 UFC event.
A light heavyweight bout between Ike Villanueva and Jorge Gonzalez has a new date.
Gonzalez, a Mexican fighter, ran into visa issues, forcing the promotion to push the fight back a week back from UFC 252 on Aug. 15 to UFC’s event on Aug. 22. Sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed the switch to MyMMANews.
Villanueva is fresh off a loss in his UFC debut. Villanueva took a short-notice heavyweight bout with octagon veteran Chase Sherman, losing via second-round TKO at UFC on ESPN+ 29 on May 13.
The “Hurricane” came into the bout on a four-fight win streak, including wins over UFC veterans Rashad Coulter and Roger Narvaez. Villanueva is 9-3 since returning to the cage in 2015 following a three-year layoff.
Gonzalez is set to make his UFC debut against Villanueva. Gonzalez most recently earned a first-round submission victory against Marcos Rodriguez at UWC 22 on July 3.
He is the winner of seven of his last eight bouts, including a first-round knockout win over UFC veteran Luke Barnatt.
