Tonight, Invicta FC returned to Scottish Rite Temple for Invicta FC 23, headlined by flyweight contenders Vanessa Porto (18-7) and Agnieszka “Kuma” Niedźwiedź (9-0). Niedźwiedź would win a unanimous decision to move to 10-0.
The eight-fight card streams live and exclusively via UFC FIGHT PASS at 7 p.m. CT.
Fan-favorite, Roxanne Modafferi made her return to the Invicta FC cage to take on Sarah D’Alelio. Read Serena Southpaw’s interview with Roxy before the fight. After being rocked early in the first round, Modafferi found her way back to control the fight and open up a nasty cut in the third round which immediately caused the referee to step in and call a halt to the fight.
Former atomweight champion Herica Tiburcio competed against Tessa Simpson, while Andrea ‘KGB’ Lee looked to continue her rise in the organization when she takes on Liz Tracy. Lee is also the current Legacy Fighting Alliance women’s 125-pound champion. Tonight Lee returned to the Invicta FC cage for the second time this year to earn a split decision win over Liz Tracy.
Yesterday, Elizabeth Phillips missed weight for her bantamweight bout with Kelly Faszholz and was fined 25 percent of her purse. The bout between these two former UFC bantamweight fighters proceeded at catchweight. Faszholz would look the worse for wear but she ended up winning a unanimous decision.
Going into the night, one fight you did not want to miss was the hard-hitting Christine Ferea taking on world renowned Muay Thai sensation Tiffany “Time Bomb” Van Soest. This fight was a runner-up on our list of the “top five fights of the weekend.” These two ladies stood toe-to-toe the entire fight and despite Van Soest’s accolades, Ferea was willing to trade. Despite her heart and effort, Ferea did not do enough to win over the judges on the scorecards.
Yaya Rincón earned her first professional MMA victory with a unanimous decision win over Brooksie Bayard to open up the Invicta FC 23 card.
