Invicta FC held their first card of the year with Invicta FC 45. The six-fight card featured the main event rematch between Alesha Zappitella and Jéssica Delboni with fights between women that have been waiting for opportunities to compete to emerge.
Zappitella and Delboni met on the promotion’s debut on AXS TV last May, with the American Zappitella retaining her title after a closely contested five-round battle. Delboni quickly rebounded from the split-decision loss, winning three fights in one night to capture the Phoenix Tournament: Atomweights crown and re-establishing herself as the No. 1 contender.
Courtney King was removed from the original card and replaced at the last minute by Shamir Peshewa to face Ramona Pascual. Also, Monica Franco finally gets to compete again after winning a battle against COVID 19. She gets to welcome Hailey Cowan to Invicta FC. It’s been a while, but if you want to start your MMA early this week MyMMANews has you covered with results for Invicta FC 45. The event aired live on their YouTube channel at 8 P.M. ET/ 5 P.M. PT.
Maria Favela vs. Sarah Kleczka
An aggressive first round of feeling out between these two ladies. Kleczka seemed to work leg kicks more and Favela was trying to find range. With open scoring in place, judges seemed to favor Favela in round 1. The scoring for Favela seemed to make Kleczka more aggressive, the change seemed to have the judges divided for round two so round three is where either fighter needed to make a case for a win. Round three had Kleczka try to initiate some clinch work with hopes of scoring some control points and it seems like it was enough for Kleczka to get the win.
Katie Saull vs. Tamika Jones
Saull had a reach advantage and seemed to be the better striker at the start of the fight. Jones seemed tense as well when the bout began and it seemed to mess with her timing. Saull was able to take her down and control her on the ground getting the submission in round 1.

Helen Peralta vs. Elise Pone
Peralta came out aggressive at the start of the round and it seemed to throw Pone off her game. Heavy strikes from Peralta helped her work the clinch and get Pone to the ground where she was able to land a lot of damage. Pone survived to make it to round two which showed more pressure from Peralta. It would be three rounds of Peralta’s power and pressure to pick up a decisive win.
Monica Franco vs. Hailey Cowan
Cowan initiated a clinch that would put Franco against the cage after seeing Franco was dangerous at range. Cowan would use her reach advantage as a strength to grapple and control Franco. Cowan admitted in her post-fight interview that she knew Franco was a dangerous counter striker so the strategy paid off in her Invicta FC debut. Cowan’s plan paid off in round two when she scored the second submission win of the event.
Ramona Pascual vs. Shamir Peshewa
Peshewa came in on short notice but was not afraid to face Pascual in the center of the cage. Pascual having been prepared would prove too much for Peshewa who only took the fight days before, and win with strikes in the first round.

Alesha Zappitella vs. Jéssica Delboni
In round one Zappitella went to her wrestling to get Delboni to the ground quickly but Delboni seemed ready to deal with the pressure having faced the champ before. She was able to reverse the takedown and close out the round where she wanted it, on their feet.
Round two showed Delboni get wise to the wrestling of Zappitella even after seemingly getting hit by a hard overhand right from her. It was still Delboni that seemed to dictate where the fight went in round two.
Round three had more of the same, Zappitella tried to impose her wrestling but Delboni had answers to everything Zappitella tried. Round four and five did have Zappitella try to throw more strikes but eventually, stuffing the takedowns and controlling the fight from there made the ingredients to crown a new champ in Delboni.
