Iuri Lapicus dies from injuries sustained in motorcycle accident in Italy
Iuri Lapicus, 27, a 27-year-old professional mixed martial artist fighting out of Milan, Italy, has died.
Lapicus, who was born in Moldova, was involved in a motorcycle accident on Friday had to be airlifted via helicopter to a hospital in the city. On Monday, the fighter passed away from injuries sustained in the accident.
With a pro record of 14-2, Lapicus most recently fought for ONE Championship in August 2022. He lost that fight due to a first-round uppercut from Zebaztian Kadestam.
“The ONE Championship team is heartbroken over the tragic passing of Iuri Lapicus,” the promotion wrote in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones at this difficult time.”
Lapicus fought former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez under the ONE banner in 2021, a bout that went to a no-contest after Lapicus landed unintentional punches to the back of Alvarez’s head.
