Jack Della Maddalena edges Kevin Holland on the cards Noche UFC co-main event

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, September 16, 2023, for Noche UFC, going down live from the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.

Headlining the event is a women’s flyweight championship rematch between Alexa Grasso (16-3) and no. 1 ranked former champion Valentina Shevchenko (23-4).

Co-headlining the event was a welterweight showdown between no. 13 ranked former XKO middleweight champion Kevin Holland (25-10) and no. 14 ranked former RF & EMMA welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena (16-2).

Kevin Holland, following a drop from 185 lbs to 170 lbs in 2022, had since gone 4-2, showing him defeat Alex Oliveira (TKO), Tim Means (D’Arce choke), Santiago Ponzinibbio (KO), and Michael Chiesa (D’Arce choke), with the defeats coming to Khamzat Chimaev (D’Arce choke) and Stephen Thompson (TKO).

Jack Della Maddalena on the other hand, following an 0-2 start to his professional career, had since won his last 15-straight fights including a 5-0 run inside the UFC with wins over the likes of Pete Rodriguez (KO), Ramazan Emeev (TKO), Danny Roberts (TKO), Randy Brown (rear naked choke), and Bassil Hafez (SD).

Official Result: Jack Della Maddalena def. Kevin Holland via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)

Della Maddalena finds his range early with his leg kicks, Holland returning some of them. Della Maddalena is also able to get off good combinations in close on a couple occasions, going to both the body and the head, while Holland lands a few good punches from range toward the end of the opening round.

Round two was also quite competitive, each man landing roughly 30 strikes onto the other.

With 90 seconds remaining in the third and final round each man has landed 25 strikes in the first three-plus minutes, though Della Maddalena pulled it out at the end, going forward with his heavy combinations.

This was a close one with Della Maddalena slightly edging Holland in total strikes landed, also being the more efficient of the two with a higher percentage of strikes landed, and his strikes appeared to have more impact than the ones Holland landed on him.

Jack Della Maddalena improves to 6-0 inside the octagon at Noche UFC.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
