Jairzinho Rozenstruik drops dos Santos in second round

UFC 252 takes place inside the UFC Apex tonight, Saturday, Aug. 15. Current heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and former two-weight champion Daniel Cormier settle the score in the main event.

Rising star Sean O’Malley puts his perfect record to the test against fellow bantamweight Marlon Vera in the night’s co-main event.

Continuing the action on the main card is a heavyweight clash between former UFC champion Junior Dos Santo and Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Dos Santos is coming off back-to-back losses for the first time in his career.

He most recently suffered a second-round TKO loss to Curtis Blaydes at UFC on ESPN+24 back in January. He previously dropped first-round knockout to Francis N’Gannou at UFC on ESPN 3 in June 2019.

His last win is a second-round TKO against Derrick Lewis at UFC on ESPN+ 4 in March 2019.

Rozenstruik is looking to rebound from his first professional defeat. he suffered a 20-second knockout to N’Gannou at UFC 249 on May 9. He came into the bout unbeaten at 4-0 inside the octagon, earning wins against Alistair Overeem, Andrei Arlovski, Allen Crowder and Junior Albini.

ROUND 1

The two tap gloves and are center. Dos Santos lands a leg kick and Rozenstruik throws and misses a jab. Rozenstruik lands a low kick early. Dos Santos goes to the body, Rozenstruik counters with a leg kick. Rozenstruik is countering with leg kicks. Do Santos throws a kick high right back. Rozenstruik with another leg kick and goes over top with a right hand. Dos Santos misses with a right and then lands a left hook. Dos Santos lands a leg kick. Rozenstruik goes inside with a leg kick. Rozenstruik keeps going for the lead leg. Rozenstruik catches a kick and comes right at dos Santos. Dos Santos able to circle off the cage, creates distance. Rozenstruik lands a leg kick and then a knee to the groin. Referee Dan Mirgliotta calls a break in the action. The two return. The round ends with dos Santos throwing a spinning leg kick.

They tap gloves again. Rozenstruik targets the lead led again with a low kick. Rozenstruik comes forward with punches and backs dos Santos up. Every time dos Santos comes in, Rozenstruik throws a leg kick. He checks a kick from dos Santos and returns a low kick of his own. Dos Santos lands an overhand right and lands another jab shortly after. Dos Santos misses with a low leg kick. Dos Santos connects on the chin of Rozenstruik with a right hand. Rozenstruik lands a left upper cut on dos Santos. Rozsenstruik lands another right hand. Rozenstruik lands a left and lands a right hand, putting dos Santos down. Dos Santos is trying to recover, Rozenstruik swarms dos Santos and lands a left hand to put dos Santos down again. Mirgliotts is forced to step in and stop this one.

Official result: Jairzinho Rozenstruik def. Junior dos Santos via TKO at 3:47 in round 2.
