Jesse Roberts Signs Multi-Fight Deal With Bellator
Jesse Roberts Signs With Bellator
Louisiana’s own lightweight Jesse Roberts has signed a multi-fight contract with Bellator MMA. Roberts made his professional career debut under the Bellator banner for one bout. Since then, Roberts has gone on a dominant run in Louisiana and along the Gulf South.
After a very productive amateur career came to an end with a victory over current-UFC fighter AJ Fletcher, Roberts made his professional debut at Bellator 214 in January 2019. Roberts was able to earn the split-decision victory over the highly-touted jiu-jitsu ace AJ Agazar. After a two-year layoff, Roberts returned to action under the American Kombat Alliance banner for four of his next five professional bouts. Of his five professional bouts after his debut, all five were victories with three of those coming by way of a first-round finish. His last victory came earlier this month in May 2023, when he scored a decision win over an extremely dangerous striker in Ronald Girones Sago at XMMA 6.
What Is Bellator Getting In Roberts?
Bellator is receiving one of the most solid professional fighters in the South. Known for their large output of top-level MMA talent, Roberts is just the next in line to showcase the dominance of Louisiana MMA fighters. Roberts has shown his ground game is very solid, controlling the pace of many bouts. His striking is also dangerous, earning a first-round knockout at AKA 22 in July 2022. All-in-all, Bellator is getting a “true mixed martial artist.” He is also no stranger to the big lights, already competing under Bellator and against such a high-profile opponent. AJ Agazar came into the MMA world as a multi-time BJJ champion including a World No-Gi, Pan American No-Gi, Brazilian National No-Gi and European No-Gi champion.
“It’s life changing man, very exciting! It’s going to be nice to be able to live off the money I make from fighting,” Roberts told MyMMANews. “It’s awesome to see everything come full circle. That was a great experience that I think helped me with dealing with the big stage. I’m just grateful they are giving me this opportunity.”
