Ring of Combat 81 will go down on September 8th at the Tropicana Casino and Hotel Resort in Atlantic City.  Louis Neglia and Frankie Perez’s Dead Serious Promotions have been stalwarts in bringing high end talent to the ROC cage.  This night looks to be no different.  Three championship belts are on the line along with another fight card stacked with great matchups.

Main Event…..155lb Ring of Combat Championship

Armando Gjetja (7-3) defends his lightweight title against Jacob Bohn (13-10).  Gjetja is surging and has won 5 straight including some highlight reel finishes.  Bohn is a tough, savvy veteran and is riding a 3-fight winning streak.

Co-main Event…..170 lb Ring of Combat Championship

Yonkers native and Animals MMA stud, Jimmy Drago (4-1) will entertain Marquez MMA standout Itso Babulaidze (3-0).  These two welterweights are both super-talented and work as hard as you possibly can.  This will be my choice for Fight of the Night as I will be cage-side hosting the pre-fight show, commentating, and hopping into the cage to talk to some of the night’s big winners.

MyMMANews reached out to Jimmy Drago to see how he was feeling about fight week.  We asked him about the delicate balance between his full-time career and training and fighting. Drago tells us…

“God bless Local 40 Ironworkers.  Besides my wife and family and fight career, Local 40 has been one of the biggest blessings in my life. Work has been great. We were working in Harlem, and we were one floor away from topping this building out.  I told them I got this title fight in four weeks, and that I was going to take the next four weeks off.  Nothing but support from them.  That gave me eight weeks of camp while ironworking and now four where I can focus on the nitty gritty part of the camp when the body starts breaking down and the diet gets more strict.  Cutting weight and training is much easier when you get to sleep in.”

Please check out our full interview on the link above.

Local 40 is much more than a union for Jimmy.  Those men and women show up, buy tickets, and are very boisterous with their support for their brother.  They always make the evening more enjoyable.  I look forward to hearing their support and chants.

In the third title contest, Nekruz Mirkhojaev will test himself against Cristian Lopez for the 145 lb strap.
