Joanne Calderwood vs Lauren Murphy set for June at UFC 263

Joanne Calderwood vs Lauren Murphy is taking place this Summer. This is a high-stakes prizefight at 125 pounds with this bout likely serving as a title eliminator at flyweight.

MMA Junkie initially reported the news of this contest coming to fruition.

UFC 263 goes down on June 12th. But a location and venue have yet to be publicly disclosed for this pay-per-view event.

Joanne Calderwood vs Lauren Murphy

Lauren Murphy is riding a four-fight winning streak heading into this bout. She has wins over Liliya Shakirova, Roxanne Modafferi, Andrea Lee, and Mara Borella through that stretch.

Her most recent victory came in the Shakirova contest. This saw Murphy win via second-round rear-naked choke at UFC 254 last October.

Joanne Calderwood enters this bout after having recently gotten back into the win column. This came following her submission loss to Jennifer Maia last August. Calderwood defeated former flyweight title challenger Jessica Eye via unanimous decision at UFC 257 in January.

Joanne Calderwood holds notable career wins over Lena Ovchynnikova, Katja Kankaanpaa, Seo Hee Ham, Valérie Létourneau, Ariane Lipski, and Andrea Lee.

Calderwood had a title bout with Valentina Shevchenko fall through with the champ sustaining an injury.

Joanne Calderwood briefly fell down in the title contender hierarchy. After opting to stay active and taking the aforementioned Maia loss. She looks to work herself back to that number one contender position again with a win here.

Murphy, the former Invicta FC bantamweight champion, is still campaigning for her first crack at a UFC title. A win here would do wonders for Lauren Murphy who would then have won across her last five outings.

UFC 263 is headlined by the UFC flyweight championship rematch between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno.

Who positions themselves well as the next UFC flyweight title contender when Joanne Calderwood vs Lauren Murphy goes down?
