John Lyons on Nick Ortiz: “Get his back and choke him out”

Consistency and persistence are prominent and key factors of growth in all walks of life. The Vault’s, John Lyons knows a thing or two about staying both. Spending day in and day out training multiple times and competing as much as possible, Lyons is truly game with his undying passion to evolve and elevate his Jiu-Jitsu.

In less than a week, April 10th, live and exclusively on FloGrappling, Lyons takes the stage, once again at the 2300 Arena to face his toughest test to date. He’ll be facing off against John Danaher’s, Nick Ortiz at the Emerald City Invitational in Philadelphia, PA.

“I’m ready to go,” says Lyons, gushing with excitement. “I think it’s a great match! I’ve been watching him for, I’d probably say a little over a year,” he says. “I’ve seen him out a couple of times competing. He’s competed against a couple of guys I’ve trained with,” Lyons recalls. “I knew the guy was in my weight class. I knew he was my rank.” Giving his word, “I can promise you I’m going to put on a great performance!”

Lyons made the decision 6 months ago to transition his training to Morton, Pennsylvania’s, The Vault. Since making his transition, “it’s done tremendous things,” he says. “Everybody over at The Vault’s really kinda helped me level up my game over the last 6 months I’ve been there, he says. “It’s like a family in there. I really have confidence in that team to get me to where I want to go.”

Settled and comfortable in his new home, Lyons expresses, “I’m so comfortable anywhere where thin goes,” discussing the match. “Walking on that big stage is a big deal and you know I’m ready for it,” Lyons confidently expresses. “I don’t know if he is. We’ll see,” he follows with a cryptic laugh. “I have a lot of things that I’m planning (on) doing different that I have never done. So, it should be interesting,” Lyons assures convincingly.

Tune in above to watch the interview in its entirety. Lyons gives a bold prediction of how he feels he takes this match. What ‘The Vault’ has done for him. He also discusses the recent success between him and his brother, a 1-0 professional CFFC featherweight MMA fighter, James “LyonHeart” Lyons.
