Jorge Masvidal signs new contract with the UFC, will end MMA career with the UFC

UFC welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal has signed a new contract with the UFC, and he will ultimately end his MMA career with the UFC.

Masvidal takes on archrival Colby Covington in the main event of UFC 272, which goes down this Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Even though he’s coming off of two straight losses to UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, Masvidal is still of the biggest draws in the UFC. The numbers for UFC 272 are trending upward and now, the company has once again rewarded Masvidal.

“Gamebred” took to his social media on Thursday night, just two days ahead of his fight against Covington at UFC 272, to announce that he has signed a new contract with the UFC. According to Masvidal, his family “will never go hungry ever again.” Check out what Masvidal wrote below:

Thank you Hunter Cambell and @danawhite and my team @malkikawa @Abraham_kawa and @FirstRoundMgmt for making sure my kids will never go hungry again #blessed

After sharing the news that he has re-upped with the UFC, MMA journalist Ariel Helwani shared more details about Masvidal’s new UFC contract, via Masvidal’s manager Malki Kawa. According to Kawa, it’s “one of the most lucrative deals in the history of the company, and we’re proud to announce he’ll end his career in the UFC.”

It’s a huge win for Masvidal, who is getting a new, bigger-money contract even though he lost his last two fights. But we all know this game is about numbers, and there is no denying Masvidal is one of the biggest names on the roster and someone who the fans want to see compete. He has proven to be quite the pay-per-view draw thus far and will likely have another big night at the box office against Covington.

What do you think about Jorge Masvidal signing a new contract with the UFC and revealing that he won’t fight for another MMA promotion ever again?
