Jordan Burroughs considering an MMA transition after 2020 Olympics

Jordan Burroughs Sends Message to Islam Makhachev

This last weekend, Islam Makhanchev put on a dominant performance against Bobby Green. After defeating Green via TKO, wrestling legend Jordan Burroughs sent a message to Makhanchev:

In the video, Makhanchev claims to be able to handle the Olympic gold medalist wrestler on the mats. Telling former UFC heavyweight and light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier that “Jordan Burroughs is going to be a good match” and that “this guy has just a double leg.”

In response Burroughs, who holds 4 Pan-American titles, and is a 5-time world champion wrestler told Makhachev to “Prove it.” Though Burroughs has said in the past that he would rather not get punched in the face, he has also tweeted that he is down for “just one” MMA fight.

Though a fight between the wrestling legend and the number 3 UFC lightweight contender is unlikely, the possibility of Burroughs heading to AKA to get on the mat with Makhachev is absolutely possible.

If the two, who are both at the very top of their sports ever met the matchup would sure be an interesting one. I think MMA and wrestling fans would both be interested to see how American freestyle wrestling and Dagestani style of wrestling would clash on the mat.

How would you see this one playing out?
