Jose Benavidez Sr. Puts an End to Caleb Plant vs. David Benavidez Plans
A rumored boxing matchup between former super-middleweight champions Caleb Plant and David Benavidez has been officially put to a halt.
Following a war on Twitter, the two were eyeing a fight against one another, as were the fans.

However, Benavidez’s dad, Jose Benavidez Sr. put an end to the dream matchup rumor on Instagram.
Benavidez Sr. stated on the Instagram post that:
“Team Benavidez has reached out to Team Plant and unfortunately, Caleb Plant has declined to fight David Benavidez in September 2022”
“David is willing to make the best fights happen for the fans, but unfortunately the fighters who the fans want to see, do not want to fight @benavidez300.”
“We will continue to prepare hard for his upcoming fight May 21st against David Lemieux Interim WBC World Super Middleweight Title.”
“Thanks to all the fans for your support!”
It’s not all bad news however, the two are still bound to meet sometime in the near future.
With Benavidez (25-0-0, 22 KOs) fighting for the WBC interim super-middleweight title in May and Plant (21-1-0, 12 KOs) right up there for title contention, it would be a mistake not to eventually make this fight.
Additionally, Boxing Scene reported that Plant and Anthony Dirrell is likely the next matchup for Plant.
So, with Plant vs. Dirrell and Benavidez vs. David Lemieux at play, it is likely that the winners will be bound to face each other. A bout that we could see sometime early next year.
