Josh Emmett believes he’s next in line for featherweight title shot following UFC 276

Surging UFC featherweight contender Josh Emmett calls for a title fight opportunity after the winner of UFC 276.

Following his victory two weeks ago against Calvin Kattar at UFC Fight Night: Austin, rising contender Josh Emmett has his eyes locked in on this weekend’s UFC 276 title fight. Emmett was able to defeat Kattar in a super close fight in the main event, which saw Emmett pick up the split decision victory. The win for Emmett was his fifth consecutive inside the UFC’s featherweight division, with his last loss coming to Jeremy Stephens back in 2018.

During his win streak, Josh Emmett has full inserted himself into the conversation as a top title challenger in a division starving for fresh names at the top. With wins over the likes of Kattar, Dan Ige, and Shane Burgos in his last three fights, Emmett has made it hard to question his status as a top contender. This week, the fourth-ranked Emmett was a guest on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani and he said he’ll have his sights set on the winner of UFC 276’s featherweight title fight between champion Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway.

“I feel like I’m next, I feel like that [fight against Kattar] was a title eliminator, I feel like it was for the No. 1 contender spot and I got the job done, I got the win.

With a trilogy fight between Volkanovski and Holloway on deck, and Brian Ortega and Korean Zombie being the other most recent title challengers, Josh Emmett said he’s been knocking on the champion’s door for a while, and that change is needed when it comes to the next challenger.

“I feel like we need to mix some things up in the featherweight division and I’ve been knocking on Alexander Volkanovski’s door for a while and I feel like it’s time for him to answer.”

No matter who wins at UFC 276 between Volkanovski and Holloway, Josh Emmett is riding a five-fight winning streak and he will sit near the center of the action this weekend as he awaits an opportunity to face the winner. In a division that needs fresh names and new title challengers, Josh Emmett is ready to break some doors down to get his rightful opportunity.
