Julie Mezabarba signs to ONE Championship atomweight ranks

Julie Mezabarba signs to ONE Championship as a part of their ever-growing atomweight category.

The news first broke on this talent acquisition from James Goyder via his personal Twitter.

Following up with ONE Championship PR, they confirm that Julie Mezabarba is with the promotion.

Per Mezabarba’s social media, rumblings of a possible ONE Championship arrangement have been out there for over a year at this point. The contractual details have finally been solidified though with the pen finally being put to the paper.

After starting her career by putting together a 2-2 record, Mezabarba has now gone unbeaten across her last seven contests.

The Brazilian combatant has experience as both a strawweight and atomweight in MMA. With the backdrop of her divisional experiences and ONE’s hydration tests, the atomweight division makes a ton of sense. As it mirrors a normative strawweight limit in other promotions.

Mezabarba has cut her teeth under the banners of NCE, Arena Global, and Shooto Brasil. She trains out of RD Champions in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Julie Mezabarba last competed in February of this year. She bested Claudia Alves via unanimous decision at Arena Global 10.

The ONE Championship atomweight division has been getting a lot of focus as of late and for good reason.

The organization’s next event is ONE: Empower which takes place on May 28th. The quarter-final bouts for the organization’s atomweight Grad Prix are set to transpire on that card.

The winner of this tournament will cement themselves as the number one contender for reigning divisional queen Angela Lee. Lee will be returning to action later this year from giving birth and defends the gold against the Grand Prix champion.

Who do you want to see Julie Mezabarba test skills against in her first foray into the ONE Circle?
