WSOF lightweight champ Justin Gaethje enters free agency
According to a report by FOXSports writer Damon Martin, the current World Series of Fighting lightweight champion Justin Gaethje is now officially a free agent.
“Sources told FOX Sports on Monday that Gaethje is now a free agent following the conclusion of his contract with World Series of Fighting where he’s been a five time defending champion. Calls to Gaethje’s management team were not immediately returned.”
There is no official word yet if his current employer will re-sign the champion or not, however, if let go, Gaethje would join the likes of middleweight and light heavyweight champion David Branch, and bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes, who both left, leaving three title positions vacated.
The bantamweight title vacancy was filled when Bekbulat Magomedov defeated Donovan Frelow at WSOF 35.
All three fighters, Gaethje, Branch, and Moraes, defended titles at WSOF 34 at Madison Square Garden on New Years Eve.
Gaethje is currently sitting at a perfect 17-0, keeping his undefeated streak in tact with a TKO win over Luiz Firmino.
Will Gaethje be whisked away to the likes of Bellator MMA or the UFC, or will WSOF keep their champion at home?
